Spring is in full swing here in Illinois! Here’s a look at three upcoming Naperville charity walkathons to get you out and enjoying the great weather. Best of all, you’ll be supporting great causes while you’re at it.
Run for LIFE 5K (May 11th)
Head over to the Batavia Riverwalk along the Fox River for the Run for LIFE 5K, hosted by the Suicide Prevention Services of America. Come out and support both survivors and family members and help advance the cause of suicide prevention. Runners and walkers can either register online or on race day beginning at 8 am.
Note, however, that the race will begin at 9 am. Awards will be presented to the winners of the youth (17 & under) and adult (18 & over) categories. All participants 9 & under will receive finisher medals.
GLOW 5K Run (May 18th)
Head on over to support literacy, family, and fitness at The 18th annual Jeanine Nicarico Memorial Literacy Fund GLOW 5K.
Note that registration is limited to 2000 participants, so register early to avoid disappointment. Online registrations close on May 13th, but you can still register downtown at the Naperville Running Company on May 16th and 17th. Packets (T-shirt, chip timer, and bib number) can also be picked up on those dates. Remember that there will be no race day packet pickups.
This unique race will utilize wave starts (staggered starts of small groups), instead of a large start for all participants. Be sure that you and your friends choose the right wave group.
Hustle Up the Hill for the Homeless (May 19th)
Still raring to go? Check out Hustle Up the Hill for the Homeless. Head up to the beautiful Blackwell Forest Preserve at Mount Hoy in Warrenville to support Bridge Communities. This organization provides free transitional housing to over 100 homeless families each year. Participants will receive t-shirts and gourmet coffee at the finish line.
Best of all, everyone gets to enjoy a beautiful view of the Chicago skyline at the mountain’s peak. Be sure to register online.
All in all, if you’re looking to ramp up your spring calendar, these Naperville charity walkathons should do the trick!
