Did you know that Naperville has a special connection to the United States military? That’s right! After WWII, returning American G.I.s sought higher education. Due to Naperville’s proximity to North Central College and new residences built under the G.I. bill, DuPage County became home to a large number of veterans. So it’s only fitting that the Naperville Memorial Day Parade is one of the community’s biggest events.
Let’s take a closer look!
The Naperville Memorial Day Parade
The City of Naperville hosts a Memorial Day parade each year in honor of its veterans who lost their lives in service. The community turns out in droves, and no fewer than 75 organizations will participate in the festivities.
Join your neighbors and enjoy the sounds of 18 different marching bands while you wave at the veterans that pass by. There will also be several troupes representing Naperville’s Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. Also on hand: an old Model T, the Naperville Fire Department, and the Highland Pipers.
The parade starts at 10:30 AM on May 28th and ends at 2:30 PM. The parade route will begin at Jackson and West Street and make its way to the SS Peter & Paul parking lot.
Although parade coordinators plan to march in the rain, the Naperville Police Department will determine whether the parade is canceled due to weather.
